With our Glass Eye Stained Glass CAD program, we can create your glass project from a photograph, or from simply an idea that you have!!

Here's The Metamorphosis from a Photo to a Stained Glass Door Insert.......

1.Our Client Emailed a Photo of their Beloved "Mr. Coal" - a Labradoodle - they wanted their art work as a Door Insert - finished size to be 21' x 35" to be set inside an exterior door window insert.

2. The First Task was to draw a "Cartoon" of the picture that would depict the character of art glass.  Exporting the picture into Photoshop and then printing out a full 8 1/2 x 11 copy - we then placed a piece of Mylar over top and created our cartoon as shown below so that "Glass Eye" could read via it's "Auto Trace" capabilities. This portion of the project is done by hand with a medium black marker.

3, Auto tracing The Cartoon - We scan the cartoon into "Glass Eye". We check all the lines for color acceptance and glass cutting capabilities to make the picture.  At this point, we also size the entire structure to the door insert requirements and make the necessary surrounding glass medium (s) designs in accordance to the main picture.  In this particular design, we didn't want to overtake the picture of the dog, so kept our outlying lines very simplistic and geometrical.

4. Confirming the Design with our Clients - Once we're content the with design elements - we color our project with actual glass medium that we feel best depict our project and deliver this to our client for approval, signing off and cost verification.

 5.  Completed Project -  The clients didn't require the collar details in this picture - so they were removed.  Once the design was printed out on our plotter - we started to work with the glass to depict "curly hair" which was the main focal point of the project. After careful consideration - we decided that Spectrum Baroque - "black & white on clear" was the optimum glass and actually used the curvature of the baroque design of the glass to make the curls and hair details for Mr. Coal. We used the outline of our cartoon picture as a guideline only and let our imagination take over. To add furthermore to the realism of this panel - we made the nose out of grey Youghiogheny and fused painted the nose details - the finished product even resembles a "wet dog nose"! The outlining areas were constructed on Spectrum Clear "Hammered" textured glass chosen by our Clients to offset the main character.
6. Our Project was constructed completely out of our wonderful Spectrum Glass medium with exception to the nose- thanks to Youghiogheny- Our clients loved the end results of this project and so did we.   Our clients, as breeders of this wonderful animal, have one of their prize dogs as a monument installed on their residential front door. Being that this was built for a door insert - our clients are able to take their picture with them if they move from their current location - this is a valuable asset as opposed to an encapsulation that may not be moved at a later date if you move away from your current location.

7. Interested in your own custom project? - If you're in the area - please call and/or visit us - relay your ideas - it will become a reality in the glass medium.   Out of area?  No problem - Call us or email us with your idea and we'll go from there.... remember art glass can go in many different directions - traditional methods such as this in copper foil/lead or we can go Etching, Sandblasting, Fusing, Mosaics, Painting..... Your ideas will become a reality in a medium that has characteristics that can have texture, form, light capabilities beyond most imaginations.........
